WASHINGTON (GaeaTimes.com)- Food giant Campbell Soup Co. is recalling an estimated 6.7 million kilograms of the canned spaghetti with meatballs which is sold under the brand name of SpaghettiOs. The product is being recalled as during processing in one of the company’s plant in Texas, a cooker malfunctioned due to which large amount of the meat remained undercooked. Apart from SpaghettiOs, the ConAgra Foods manufactured Marie Callende’s frozen meals have also been recalled by the company as few of its products is said to have been associated with salmonella contamination. The United States Department of Agriculture announced both the recalls on Thursday which resulted in the products of both the companies being pulled off stores across the country.

While talking about the SpaghettiOs recall, Campbell Soup Co. spokesperson Anthony Sanzio stated that as a precautionary measure, the food giant is recalling few products which were manufactured since late 2008. As officials of the company do not know for sure when the cooker malfunctioned in the Texas plant, the company decided to recall the SpaghettiOs made since December, 2008. Anthony Sanzio further emphasized that given the fact that the can were not heated sufficiently, it might be the breeding ground for bacteria owing to which the product may get spoiled much before its expiry date. It has also been stated that the company has not received any complaints from customers and there has been no reports of illnesses due to consumption of SpaghettiOs.

Although SpaghettiOs has till now stayed clear of any reports of illnesses, the ConAgra Foods were informed about a potential salmonella contamination in its Marie Callender’s frozen meals by U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which led to its recall.
