WASHINGTON (GaeaTimes.com)- The BP’s chief executive Tony Hayward obtained forgiveness before US senators at Clapton Hill last Thursday, June 17 as they grilled him over the issue of Gulf of Mexico oil disaster. Even the US Senators called for his resignation. The BP chief apologized saying that the explosion and fire on board Deepwater Horizon and resulting in oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico which led to widespread damage never should have happened and he is deeply regrets that.

The protesters were infuriated when they saw Tony Hayward and shouted saying, “You need to go to jail”, he faced questions from the indignant members of the House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee in a deliberate monotone. He denied his involvement in the decision proceedings of the accident and declined to speculate on causes until investigations were complete. The politicians even accused the embattled CEO of “stone-walling” but he remained his calm while answering his questions ignoring reporters’ questions but he had to answer them when he went inside the interrogation room.

The House Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry Waxman accused Tony Hayward of not being aware of the safety issues with the deepwater horizon rig whereas the CEO had earlier promised to focus on safety. The committee said that they are extremely frustrated with his lack of frankness in his responses to the questions. The interrogation continued for many hours and the members also ridiculed his safety regime. The CEO admitted to the committee that a relief well would help to stop the oil leakage which resulted in such an extensive amount of damage.
