NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) which held the responsibility of providing catering services to Indian Railways suffered a setback recently when the Railway ministry took the decision to take over the catering services. As per the catering policy, the transfer of the services would commence from December 31 in a planned manner although IRCTC would continue to provide services to the food plazas located in the railways stations across the country, officials of the Railway Board have revealed to the media outlets.
It has been reported that the Railway Board was not left with much of an option but to transfer the catering services from IRCTC in the wake of the incessant complaints that the board was receiving from the passengers when it came to the quality as well as quantity of food that was being served to them. An order that was issued by the Railway Board earlier on read that all the pantry services would be shifted to the Indian Railways from December 31, taking into account all the contracts that were set to get invalid between 2010 and 2011. For the rest of the contracts which were to expire between 2011 and the next year, the pantry services would be transferred by end of January, the Railway Board’s order further went on to state.
Despite losing the catering contract of the Indian Railways, it seems unlikely that IRCTC would be much affected by it considering the fact that it is gearing up to open a food factory in the national capital to cater to customers with high-quality packages food items.
