Copper prices fall amid concerns over China

DENVER — Copper prices have fallen amid speculation that China will take steps to slow its economy.

Analysts said Monday that investors are worried that China’s need for industrial metals will fall. The country’s annual legislative meeting ended without any policy changes that could have boosted domestic consumption.

Investors also are awaiting the Federal Reserve’s meeting Tuesday. They’re looking for any signs that interest rates will be going up.

Gold and silver both closed higher, while energy prices fell across the board and grains were mixed.
