NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com)- The Carla Franklin controversy has reminded the netizens of last year’s identified blogger Rosemary Port. With Google in the limelight again, many have questioned the need for anonymity on the web and there have been several arguments in its favor and against it. Considering the media attention that the case against Rosemary Port got, the Carla Franklin controversy is sure to stir up some old debates.
Last year, model Liskula Cohen dragged web giant Google to court and forced out the identity of a blogger. The blogger had apparently used derogatory words to describe the 37 year old model and even called her an ‘old hag’. After a controversial court case, the blogger was identified to be an acquaintance of the model. The recent case against Carla Franklin is similar to Liskula Cohen’s as her video clip on YouTube is titled in a derogatory manner. The attorney of the former model and business consultant said that the video has damaged her reputation and also hampered her job prospects. She is reportedly upset with the episode and is not looking for money through the lawsuit but only wants to know the identity of the YouTube users.
Similar to the case if Rosemary Port, Google, which owns YouTube, has been asked to reveal the identity of the users who posted the video and the comments about Carla Franklin. Rosemary Port and her lawyer had earlier promised to file a lawsuit against Google for failing to protect the anonymity of the blogger. One of the company’s spokespersons said that the company will look into the matter. He also added that the company has a history of advocating on behalf of its users to protect them.
