BEIJING - A piano used at the Shanghai World Expo will go under the hammer in an auction in Beijing, proceeds from which will be donated to a group of disabled performers.

Another piano used at the opening ceremony of the 2008 Paralympic Games and 1,000 other items will be auctioned by the North Latitude 40 Degrees Dacheng International Auction Co. at Beijing’s Great Wall Sheraton Hotel Friday, Xinhua reported.

The money raised from the auction of the expo piano will be donated to the China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe, a spokesman for the auction company said.

A piano used at the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics sold for 22 million yuan ($3.3 million) at one of the company’s auctions in 2009.
