The Obamas to go to the theater

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama plan a night out at the theater.

Sunday afternoon, they will host a White House reception honoring historic Ford’s Theatre.

After that, the president and first lady will attend a performance at the theater where President Abraham Lincoln was fatally shot in 1865.

The performance will be taped for broadcast on ABC on July 2.

Ty Burrell of ABC’s “Modern Family” will host the program entitled, “America Celebrates July 4th at Ford’s Theatre.” It will also feature opera singer Renee Fleming and others.

The theater will award its Lincoln Medal to South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu and to South African Constitutional Court Justice Albie Sachs.
