Kremlin: Medvedev, Obama speak by telephone
MOSCOW — The Kremlin says the Russian and U.S. presidents spoke for about an hour and a half by telephone.
The statement on the Kremlin Web site says Presidents Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama had a “thorough and constructive” discussion Thursday on an array of issues. No details have been given.
Medvedev has just returned from a trip to Syria and Turkey, where he made clear Moscow’s willingness to play an active part in efforts to bring peace to the Middle East.
Also among the pressing issues for the U.S. and Russia is a new treaty to reduce strategic nuclear arsenals. The treaty, which was signed by the two presidents last month, faces ratification hearings in the Senate next week.
Both countries are also negotiating a new accord on the adoption of Russian children.
