Obama talks debt crisis with 2 Europe leaders

WASHINGTON — The White House says President Barack Obama has spoken with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and German Chancellor Angela Merkel about the debt crisis in Greece.

Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs says the topic came up during a video teleconference among the three leaders on Friday morning.

Gibbs reiterated that the White House believes the European Union “can and will act appropriately” to ensure an effective response to the crisis in Greece.

Obama, Brown and Merkel also discussed nuclear nonproliferation, Afghanistan, terrorism, the global economy and trade issues during the call.
