American Air, Japan Airlines seek antitrust deal

DALLAS — American Airlines says it has filed for an antitrust exemption to work closely with Japan Airlines on trans-Pacific flights.

American filed an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The airlines need immunity to work together in setting prices and schedules without violating antitrust laws.

This week, financially troubled Japan Airlines decided to maintain an alliance with American and reject overtures to work with Delta Air Lines Inc.
