LONDON - An exquisitely decorated 18th century Chinese imperial vase is expected to fetch 14 million pounds when it goes under the hammer in Hong Kong this Spring.

Displayed by Sotheby’s in Hong Kong, the Falangcai vase with golden pheasants is the centrepiece of a sale from the Meiyintang collection, one of the foremost private collections of Chinese ceramics.

In total, the 80 lots are expected to raise 75 million pounds at the auction in Hong Kong on April 7 which promises to attract bids from the world’s leading collectors, Sotheby’s said.

“The Meiyintang Collection was acquired piece by historic piece over the course of half a century,” the Telegraph quoted Nicolas Chow, head of Sotheby’s Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art, as saying.

“The collector sought only the most significant objects from each reign and worked closely with the foremost experts in the field, leading dealers E.T. Chow and Giuseppe Eskenazi.”

The Falangcai vase, from the period of the Qianlong Emperor, who reigned from 1736-95, was fired in the Jingdezhen imperial kilns of the southern Jiangxi province. (ANI)
