‘Glow’ On Santa Monica Beach Dazzles

SANTA MONICA (GaeaTimes.com) The all night long cultural experience, ‘Glow‘, on the Santa Monica beach is underway. The event started at 7pm in the evening and will continue well past midnight till 3am. This year’s event features some well known names from the art industry all across the world. Artists from Canada, France and the US will re-imagine the Santa Monica beach as a playground for though-provoking and dynamic art forms. The event also gathers significant audience who are allowed to participate in the culturally enlightening event.

The ‘Glow‘ is organized by the City of Santa Monica and Santa Monica Arts and the event attracted as many as 200,000 visitors in 2008. The biennial event will showcase the works by artists such as Anne Bray from Los Angeles and Yoshua Okon from Mexico City. The artists will be creating their own artwork during the event and the audience can witness the process of the creation of the art. The artists will also be paid for the artwork that they create at the event. This year the number of visitors is expected to surpass the number in 2008.

There was also an open call organized in Los Angeles where the artists were called from all across the world. 15 artists who were suited for ‘Glow Santa Monica‘ were selected. The admission to the event is free of cost. Among some of the arts that will be at display, one which has amazed most of the visitors is by the electronic artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer. The piece consists of two sand boxes which produce small images of the visitors when they come near it. Once the visitor reaches out for the box with their hands, two huge projectors show the image of their hands on the beach.
