President to mark 9th anniversary of 9/11 attacks

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama is marking the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks with a speech at the Pentagon, one of the targets of the terrorists.

At 8:46 a.m. — the time the first of two planes hit the World Trade Center in New York City — the president will observe a moment of silence. Later Saturday, he will attend a service and deliver remarks at the Pentagon Memorial, where another hijacked jetliner struck.

Vice President Joe Biden will be in New York City for the service there and first lady Michelle Obama travels to Shanksville, Pa., where a fourth airliner taken over by terrorists went down.
