GALT (GaeaTimes.com)- After an egg-in-shell recall for around 228 million tainted eggs that had hit the market in between May 16 and Aug 13 by Wright County Egg company, on Wednesday the health officials dramatically increased the number of recalled eggs to 380 million. The egg recall list was expanded by the health officials after a salmonella outbreak sickened hundreds of people in three and more states. The salmonella outbreak, that the officials fear might have affected a larger population all over United States, is being linked to eggs.
Although Dr. Christopher Braden, a CDC epidemiologist maintained that no death caused by the salmonella outbreak has been reported to the health centers, the egg recall list has been expanded to cut the spreading wings of the salmonella outbreak. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention along with state health departments are investigating the illnesses. Minnesota based food-borne illness investigators, who are considered as some of the best in the country, have found at least seven salmonella illnesses related to the consumption of eggs.
Apart from an increase in the egg recall list, the list of affected states has also seen an increase. Many states have come up with reports that they have seen a dramatic increase in the number of salmonella caused illnesses in the recent past. Apart from California that has reported 266 illnesses since June of which many are believed to be related to eggs, Colorado has come up with 28 cases and reports of suspicious illnesses have also come from Arizona, Nevada, Illinois, Texas, Wisconsin and Arizona. The list of packaged eggs that have been recalled are Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Hillandale, Sunshine, Farm Fresh, Trafficanda, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms Kemp, Lucerne, and Albertson.
