Attorney: Returned Russian boy back in orphanage

SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. — An attorney for an adoption agency says a Russian boy who was sent back to Moscow by his American adoptive mother has been placed back in an orphanage.

Larry Crain, who works for World Association for Children and Parents, said the 8-year-old boy was put back in a Russian orphanage this month after his adoptive mother, Torry Hansen of Shelbyville, Tenn., sent him back in April. Crain said he did not know the name or location of the orphanage.

Hansen sent him with a note saying she didn’t want him any more because he had severe psychological problems.

The incident created an international uproar and new adoptions by U.S. parents in Russia virtually stopped.

Crain has filed a court petition saying another Tennessee woman is willing to be the boy’s guardian.
