Akanksha Sarda Wins Gold Medal

MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- 18 year old Akanksha Sarda is a young girl from Mumbai who has achieved a never before feat by an Indian girl earlier this month. She has won the gold medal at the International Physics Olympiad held in Croatia becoming the first Indian girl to received the honors. India ranked 6th overall in the competition where 82 nations with 5 representatives each participated.

The 18 year old has refused to take off the gold medal as she was very thrilled with the achievement. Her family members are also ecstatic after her win and have also revealed that she hated physics in school. Her mother also said that she was inclined towards mathematics and gradually took interest in physics again. Akanksha Sarda has also bagged the 18th rank in the IIT entrance exam this year. She however plans to give the best engineering college in India a miss and apply for MIT. She says that she wants to study with her idol Noam Chomsky there.

Vijay Singh, the national co-coordinator of the Science Olympiad also expressed his pride in the achievement by the 18 year old. He revealed that India has been participating in the event for the last 13 years and only 2 girls have gone since. Praveen Tyagi of PACE, which groomed Akanksha Sarda for the event, was also all praises for the young Mumbaikar. He said that she had made the nation proud by winning gold at the International Physics Olympiad in Croatia. He also revealed that there were 40,000 students who appeared for the exam and after a series of tests and programs only 5 were selected to represent the country. Akanksha Sarda also topped the Science Olympiad exam in India.
