2 women in Calif. share $64M lottery jackpot
LOS ANGELES — A pair of co-workers in Southern California have claimed the $64 million jackpot from Friday’s Mega Millions lottery drawing.
Zahra Vasseghi, of Agoura Hills, and Thu Thao Truong, of El Monte, came forward Tuesday with the winning ticket they purchased together at a downtown Los Angeles smoke shop.
Lottery officials say the two women opted for the cash payout and collected $41.7 million.
The women say they plan to keep their jobs at a telecommunications company and use their wealth to help their families. But first, they’re planning a trip to Las Vegas where they’ll splurge on a suite at the Bellagio Hotel.
The women bought the ticket at Smoke N’ Stuff, which will get a $320,000 payout from the state.
The Mega Millions website says the odds of matching all five numbers and the Mega number is one in more than 175 million.
