Ohio autoworker: Winning lottery ‘like a dream’

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Ohio man who bought a lucky Powerball ticket for himself and co-workers at a Detroit auto plant says learning they won was literally like a dream.

William Shanteau of Curtice (KUR’-tis) and 13 other Chrysler employees, who all live in Michigan, share one of two winning tickets in a $96.9 million Powerball drawing from last week. They claimed their prize Monday in Toledo and chose to take a lump-sum cash payment, worth about $25.1 million. After taxes, each autoworker gets $1.2 million.

In a statement, Shanteau says he had a dream the night before the drawing that they’d won. He says when he went back to the Toledo area store where he bought the ticket and verified he had a winner, “bells and whistles went off.”

The other winning ticket was sold in Montana.
