CLEVELAND — A person who bought a $261.6 million Powerball lottery ticket in Ohio has claimed the prize, but the winner’s identity has not been revealed.
The Ohio Lottery says the holder of the sole winning ticket in the June 2 drawing claimed the winnings Tuesday and chose to take a lump-sum cash payment of about $134.9 million.
Lottery officials say Columbus attorney George Hoffman made the claim on behalf of the winner. Hoffman declined to comment Wednesday.
The ticket sold in Sunbury, north of Columbus, was Ohio’s first Powerball jackpot winner, coming less than two months after the state joined the multistate lottery game. Later in June, a ticket sold in the Toledo area won half a $96.9 million jackpot for a group of Detroit autoworkers.
