Syneron vascular laser approved in Japan

WAYLAND, Mass. — Japanese regulators have approved the use of a laser system developed by Syneron Medical Ltd., the company said Monday.

The Vbeam pulsed dye laser is made by Syneron’s Candela Corp. business and is used to treat vascular conditions such as rosacea and hemangioma. It is also used for cosmetic purposes to remove sun or age spots, wrinkles and stretch marks.

The approval means that the treatment will be covered by more insurers in Japan, Syneron said.

The company is based in Israel and makes skin treatments and aesthetic medical devices.

In morning trading, Syneron shares rose 4 cents to $9.48.
