Uncle Sam statues, barbecue at Obama holiday bash
WASHINGTON — The first family is hosting a July Fourth celebration for members of the military and their families, complete with a barbecue and view of the evening’s fireworks from the South Lawn of the White House.
It’s not just the country’s birthday, but also Malia Obama’s — No. 12.
Red and blue tablecloths covered tables on the South Lawn. American flags popped up from flower arrangements on the tables, and two large Uncle Sam statues were spotted.
President Barack Obama plans to make some remarks to his visitors this evening.
Nearby on the National Mall, thousands of people are expected for festivities that include performances by singers Reba McEntire, Gladys Knight and David Archuleta. Then it’s the big fireworks show.
