Washington, 9 June (ANI): The case of the alleged kidnapping of Iranian nuclear scientist Shahram Amiri has taken a confusing turn with the coming up of a new Youtube video quoting him as “happy and safe” in US.

It is to be noted that in an earlier video, he had claimed to be drugged and kidnapped and was living in Tucson, Arizona.

“Since I was abducted and brought to the US, I was heavily tortured and pressured by US intelligence,” he was quote, as saying.

He claimed that he was forced to lie and pretend that he had top secret information on the Iranian nuclear program so the U.S. could put “political pressure” on Iran.

However, in the new video, he claimed to be happy and safe in US.

“I am free here and I assure everyone I am safe,” he said.

He added that he would like to share the results of his education with his people, provided that he had a chance to go back home safely.

Shahram had been at the center of a mystery since his disappearance on a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia last year. According to an ABC News report, he had defected to the US and was providing information about Iran’s secret nuclear program, citing current and former CIA officials.

Though US officials are taking it in a different way. They are suspecting Amiri’s defection as an “intelligence coup” in its continuing efforts to undermine Iran’s nuclear program. (ANI)
