Summary Box: Metals rise on hope for China demand
WATCHING CHINA: Industrial metals rose as investors speculated a jump in China’s stock markets could be a sign of improving industrial demand. China is a voracious consumer of commodities including industrial metals.
SAFETY IN GOLD: Other investors turned to gold as a safe place to park money. Gold for June delivery rose $17.90 to $1,194 an ounce.
OIL CHECK: Crude oil for July delivery rose 17 cents to settle at $70.21 Monday. Yet, the price is still well below an 18-month high of $87.15 per barrel that occurred three weeks ago.
