Zimbabwe police seize human rights photo exhibits
HARARE, Zimbabwe — A lawyer representing organizers of a photo exhibit documenting human rights violations in Zimbabwe says police have seized the show’s 65 photographic exhibits.
Lawyer Irene Petras says Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai still plans to open the exhibition on Wednesday even if there are no photographs to exhibit.
Police who seized the photos on Tuesday say they were not fit for display because they showed nudity, wounds and unidentified bodies.
One shows former opposition leader Tsvangirai, his face swollen and his head bandaged, after he was assaulted by police two years before he joined a coalition government with President Robert Mugabe in 2009.
The show’s organizers filed a complaint in the High Court Wednesday calling for the photos’ return.
