Khamenei blasts Obama, says he plots againt Iran

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says President Barack Obama was not qualified to speak about “peace and friendship” with Iran because he was plotting against his country.

In a Sunday address broadcast live on television, Khamenei says Iran is watching the “intentions” behind Obama’s offer of more educational and cultural exchanges in a message last week marking the Iranian New Year.

But Khamenei, who has the final say on all matters in Iran, says U.S. overtures have been deceptive and that Washington has taken the “worst position possible” on Iran’s postelection turmoil be calling “rioters” as “civil activists.”

Iran was rocked by opposition protests following disputed presidential elections in June.
