Obama appeals directly to Iranian people in video

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama has posted an Internet video telling Iranians that the United States wants more educational and cultural exchanges for their students and better access to the Internet to give them a more hopeful future.

Obama told Iranians that the United States’ offer of diplomatic dialogue still stands but that the Iranian government has chosen isolation. He said the U.S. believes in the dignity of every human being.

The video, Obama’s second to the Iranian people, was timed to coincide with Nowruz (noh-ROOZ’), a 12-day festival celebrating the Persian new year and the arrival of spring. It has Farsi subtitles.
