Rights group appeals to Guinea’s interim leaders
JOHANNESBURG — A rights group has appealed to Guinea’s interim leaders to locate the bodies of the missing and to suspend officials who were implicated in a September massacre at a pro-democracy rally that left over 150 people dead.
Human Rights Watch says the government should pursue justice for victims of last year’s massacre.
The group says the leaders should investigate and prosecute human rights violations committed by Guinea’s security forces. They say the government should monitor security forces in the lead-up to June elections to prevent intimidation of voters.
The interim government was established with help from international mediators in the aftermath of the Sept. 28 massacre and Dec. 3. assassination attempt against the junta leader.
