Pa. social workers on trial in disabled teen death

PHILADELPHIA — The trial of four former social workers linked to the starvation death of a disabled Philadelphia teenager is set to begin.

The trial gets under way Tuesday for MultiEthnic Behavioral Services co-founders Michal Kamuvaka and Solomon Manamela and two others on charges stemming from the 2006 death of 14-year-old Danieal (dan-YELL’) Kelly.

Prosecutors say the now-defunct company billed the city for services it never performed then tried to cover up the fraud by forging documents.

Danieal Kelly weighed just 42 pounds when she died in a squalid apartment. Her mother later admitted to third-degree murder.

Five other MultiEthnic Behavioral Services workers have already pleaded guilty.
