Correction: Hawaii Civil Unions story
HONOLULU — In a story Jan. 22 about civil unions in Hawaii, The Associated Press reported erroneously that five states allow civil unions.
Civil unions in New Jersey grant all the rights and benefits of marriage to same-sex couples, while California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington have domestic partnership laws extending most marriage rights, according to the Washington, D.C.-based Human Rights Campaign. Six other states provide some spousal rights to same-sex couples: Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Rhode Island and Wisconsin.
The five states that permit same-sex marriage are Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont.
