Obama says US not going to take over Haiti
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama says the United States cannot afford to ignore the trouble in Haiti.
Obama said Wednesday in an interview with ABC News that the United States doesn’t want its relief efforts to appear as if it is taking over the devastated Caribbean country. He says the government of Haiti has been paralyzed by last week’s earthquake, but the United States want to help the country rebuild, not take over.
Obama says it will help the United States’ image if it uses power in ways that don’t involve wars. He says it also helps U.S. national security.
