Official: Review of Yemeni detainees will continue

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama’s top counterterrorism adviser says officials will continue reviewing the cases of Yemeni detainees at Guantanamo and decide whether they should be sent home.

Lawmakers from both political parties, including Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, have called on the Obama administration to stop sending detainees to Yemen in light of terrorist activities in that country.

Obama adviser John Brennan says no decisions regarding releasing or transferring the prisoners will put Americans at risk.

Obama has promised to close the detention facility. About half of the 90 detainees from Yemen are scheduled to be sent back to Yemen at some point.

Brennan spoke on “Fox News Sunday.”
