Maine heating oil prices rise 3 cents per gallon

AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine energy officials say the state’s average heating oil price has risen 3 cents per gallon since last week.

The Governor’s Office of Energy Independence and Security said Monday its weekly survey showed the statewide average cash price for No. 2 heating oil to be $2.60 per gallon, up 3 cents.

Energy Director John Kerry said improvements in domestic consumer confidence, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and a relatively weak U.S dollar are placing upward pressure on oil prices.

Heating oil prices vary from region to region. Maine’s lowest heating oil price of $2.32 per gallon was found in the southwestern part of the state, while the highest price, $2.85 per gallon, was found in the eastern and northern regions.
