LONDON - Luxury car firm Mercedes-Benz has been named Britain’s favourite consumer super brand.
It’s the first time in five years the top spot hasn’t gone to either Google or Microsoft - which fell to fifth and sixth place respectively.
Second place went to the Swiss watch firm Rolex, while the BBC was third.
The top 10 super brands are as follows:
1 Mercedes-Benz
2 Rolex
3 BBC
4 Coca-Cola
5 Google
6 Microsoft
7 BMW
8 British Airways
9 Apple
10 Jaguar
The Centre for Brand Analysis, which reflects the views of a panel of 2,000 business professionals, compiled the list.
The Rolls-Royce Group took the top spot in the Business super brands index for the first time since 2007. More than 1,100 brands were short listed for the survey, judged by professionals from the marketing, financial services and manufacturing sectors.
Brands were rated against a number of criteria including quality, distinction - and reliability.
The survey was compiled just before the dramatic failure of one of Rolls Royce’s Trent 900 engines, which exploded while powering an Airbus A380 on a Qantas plane last November, forcing the jet into an emergency landing in Singapore. The incident led to every Trent 900 in service being examined and partly or entirely replaced, costing the firm 56 million pounds.
Both Airbus and Qantas are understood to be negotiating a commercial compensation agreement.
“It’s difficult to tell what would have happened if the survey had been conducted after that event,” said Stephen Cheliotis, chief executive of The Centre of Brand Analysis. (ANI)
