COLOMBO - The cremation ground of late Tamil Tiger chief Vellupillai Prabhakaran’s mother has been desecrated by the leaving of the dead bodies of three shot dogs at the site, relatives have claimed.

The bodies were left at the site on Tuesday night, in a major insult to the deceased woman, after 81-year-old Parvati Pillai was cremated earlier on the same day, the BBC reports.

Prabhakaran’s relatives have branded the incident as a “barbaric act”.

Prabhakaran had led the Tamil Tiger rebels for 25 years before being defeated and killed in May 2009.

Although his parents were not involved in politics, they were arrested by the Sri Lankan military days after the war ended.

Prabhakaran’s father had reportedly died in a detention centre last year, while his mother was released and spent her last year in hospital. (ANI)
