Raymond Davis on hunger strike over ’substandard food’ in Pak prison

ISLAMABAD - Raymond Davis, who is facing double murder charges in Pakistan, has gone on a hunger strike in a Lahore prison to protest against “substandard food” being given to him and to press for removing security cameras.
An official said that Davis refused to eat in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail when food was given to him.
The official claimed that the U.S. consulate was supplying the food, and the prison authorities have nothing to do with it.
Officials further said that the 36-year-old also wanted the security cameras around his barrack removed, a demand rejected by the jail authorities.
The jail authorities insisted that the cameras have been installed for Davis’ security and will not be removed.
Davis, who the Americans claim works for the U.S. consulate in Lahore, had shot dead two Pakistanis on January 25.
The Obama administration has insisted that he is an “administrative and technical official” and has diplomatic immunity under the Vienna Convention.
However, Pakistani officials say that Davis is not entitled to diplomatic immunity and the court will decide the issue. (ANI)
