Pak not pursuing Musharraf’s extradition from UK: Rehman Malik
By ANIWednesday, February 23, 2011
ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that his ministry is not pursuing former President Pervez Musharraf’s extradition from the United Kingdom.
“We are not pursuing the extradition of General (retired) Musharraf from the UK,” the Dawn quoted Malik, as saying in a joint press conference with British Immigration Minister Damian Green.
An Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi had reissued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Musharraf in connection with former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s assassination.
Musharraf was Pakistan’s President when Benazir was targeted in a gun and bomb attack on December 27, 2007 in Rawalpindi.
Musharraf’s spokesman had earlier said that the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) chief, who is currently living in a self-imposed exile in London, would not be going back to Pakistan for any court hearing.
Although the exact nature of the charges against Musharraf are not clear, he is alleged to have been part of a “broad conspiracy” to have Benazir killed before elections in the country. (ANI)
