‘Brit-Indian honeymooner too fragile to stand trial in SA after failed suicide bid’

LONDON - The Brit-Indian millionaire charged with masterminding his wife’s murder during their honeymoon in Cape Town last year has reportedly become too “fragile” to stand trial in South Africa after a failed suicide attempt in London.

Thirty-one-year-old Dewani was released from hospital yesterday after a failed suicide bid from a pills overdose, The Sun reports.he paper quoted Dewani’s doctor, Malcolm Vand-enburg, as saying that the Indian-origin business tycoon looked “drained” and advised him stay in familiar surroundings.

“You don’t want someone in a fragile mental state to fly off from their support structure,” Dr. Malcolm added.

Dewani’s family spokesman, Max Clifford, said that Shrein intends to stand trial because he wants the truth to come out, but added: “We are concerned that if he does go back he doesn’t get tortured based on what South African lawyers say.”

Dewani’s wife, Anni, was shot dead when a taxi the couple were travelling in was hijacked in the Gugulethu township on the outskirts of Cape Town on November 13 last year.

Her dead body was found in the back seat of the hijacked car. Recently, it was reportedly that the abductors had sexually assaulted her before gunning her down.

Although the South African police have been insisting that Dewani had planned Anni’s murder, the “stressed” husband has denied all allegations against him. He is currently in London fighting his extradition case to South Africa. (ANI)
