SEOUL - The Republic of Korea (ROK) and the United States are planning to hold talks next month to discuss the nuclear umbrella supplied by the US against potential nuclear threats from North Korea.
The Extended Deterrence Policy Committee, which was established in December 2010,has been tasked with strengthening Washington’s extended deterrence for Seoul against possible threats posed by North Korea’s nuclear program and weapons of mass destruction, according to the Yonhap report.
An unidentified source at the defence ministry said that two rounds of talks of the joint committee are being planned, with the first one scheduled to take place in the latter half of next month.
The DPRK conducted two nuclear tests and has recently claimed to have built a new, highly sophisticated facility to enrich uranium, raising concerns for regional security, Xinhua reports. (ANI)
