CHENNAI - The Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) entered into an alliance for the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly polls on Friday under which the PMK has been allotted 31 assembly seats.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi announced the deal after nearly 90 minutes meeting with PMK founder S. Ramadoss.

The DMK chief said the two parties have decided to contest the assembly polls jointly.

After finalizing the alliance, Ramadoss appeared extremely pleased saying the PMK has been allotted 31 seats and also a Rajya Sabha seat.

The PMK founder also expressed confidence that the DMK-led alliance, which also has Congress in it, would ’sweep’ the polls.

Earlier on February 2, Ramadoss said the PMK would take a decision on alliance in a week.

“We will face the elections with an alliance,” said Ramadoss, adding that the party had decided not to go it alone.

The PMK had contested 31 seats in the 2006 Assembly polls in alliance with the DMK and won 18 of them. (ANI)
