WASHINGTON - The Obamas have set up their own little brewery going by the White House menu for their annual Super Bowl Sunday party, which besides cheeseburgers, pizza, and buffalo wings featured: White House Honey Ale.

The White House chefs made one batch of beer using about a pound of honey from First Lady Michele Obama’s honey hive, on the South Lawn of the White House, ABC news reported citing the First Lady’s office.

The chefs used the traditional methods to brew the beer, and the First Lady’s office confirms that the Obamas paid for the equipment, the channel said.

The batch was made so that the nearly 200 Super Bowl guests - from members of Congress to celebrities like JLo - could sample the new beer.

In a picture provided by the White House the beer even has its own logo: a picture of the White House highlighted on a maroon background circled in yellow which reads, “White House Honey Ale: brewed with White House honey”.

White House honey has regularly made appearances on White House menus and events - just not in the beer form.

Michelle Obama has also given the harvested honey from the White House hive as gifts. At the G-20 meetings in Pittsburgh the First Lady gave the visiting spouses a wooden box including two jars of White House honey.
