LONDON - A soldier calling from Afghanistan poured his heart out to the answering machine of his pregnant girlfriend and asked her to marry him. But, the emotional call went waste as he had dialled the wrong number.
Diana Potts, the woman on whose answering machine the soldier made the call, is a mother of three, The Sun reported.
The mystery soldier told pregnant Samantha: “I love you so much” and asked: “Will you marry me?”
Diana is now keen to pass on the message to Samantha.
“The line was quite crackly. I was shocked, and had to listen to it again before the message sunk in.
“He sounded really young, only about 18. He said he would not be able to ring for another month, and that he wouldn’t be home for another three months,” Diana was quoted as saying.
She said that the soldier “talked about a friend being blown up, so I’d assume he is somewhere in Afghanistan”.
“It did upset me hearing it. I just thought, ‘Bless him’, he sounded so young. His girlfriend must be having a baby and I really hope she gets in touch.”
