MLA murder case: Women organizations demand Modi’s resignation

PATNA - The President of All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), Subhasini Ali, along with the other women protestors burnt an effigy of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and demanded his resignation here on Wednesday over his recent remarks on the mental state of Rupam Pathak, who stabbed a legislator to death.

“We are saying that she (Rupam Pathak) should be treated here (Patna). She has suffered serious injuries and should get proper medical treatment. She is not being allowed to meet her lawyer and is not able to sign the affidavit,” said Ali.
“The accused (Vipin Rai, the murdered MLA’s personal assistant) is not being arrested, and a journalist has been locked up and should be released, and the Deputy Chief Minister has tainted his post and should be removed from the post,” she added.
Earlier on Monday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said his government will fully cooperate with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in its probe into the murder of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Raj Kishore Kesri.
“The state government will fully cooperate with CBI in its probe into the MLA killing case… I will request that all aspects involved in the case be probed,” said Kumar on the sideline of his “Junta Darbar” here.
“The state government recommended to the Centre to hand over to CBI the case following demands from various quarters,” he added.
Earlier on Sunday, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said: “Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has written a letter to the Centre recommending a CBI probe into the murder. I hope CBI will take over the investigation.”
“The entire matter is with CBI now. If there have been any lapses, everything will come out clear. We neither want to shield anyone or victimise anyone. We have never victimised anyone. We have re-established law and order in the state and no one is above law,” he added on the sidelines of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, which concluded in New Delhi on Sunday.
The murder case of Kesri took a new turn on January 6 with the police arresting Navlesh Pathak, the editor of a local English weekly “Quisling”, who had for the first time reported the sexual harassment complaint of Rupam Pathak.
Rupam Pathak, a teacher in a private school, stabbed the MLA during his “Junta Darbar” on January 4.
She accused him of raping her on different occasions over the last three years. (ANI)
