ISLAMABAD - Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari is likely to appoint former Attorney General Sardar Latif Khosa as the new Punjab Governor, according to Advisor to the President Qayyum Soomro.

The decision was taken after considering various names for the vacant post, and the notification is expected to be issued by Sunday (today), Soomro told Express News.

Meanwhile, Latif Khosa said that President Zardari has invited him for a meeting in Karachi on Sunday.

The position of Punjab Governor has been vacant since the assassination of Salmaan Taseer, who was shot by one of his own guards, Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qari, in an upmarket neighbourhood of Islamabad on Tuesday.

According to Article 101 of the Pakistan Constitution, the president nominates the governor, who stays in office until the president notifies otherwise. (ANI)
