SAN FRANCISCO (Gaea Times.com) In a recent airshow, a United Airlines 747 jet flew very close to Golden Gate Bridge on Oct 9, causing many to react in an apprehensive manner, as it reminded them of 9/11. Many people had a painful recollection of the attack on world trade center, when during San Francisco’s Fleet week, one jet flew very close by the golden gate bridge. The video of the event was posted on YouTube Monday, and has reportedly upset some people. However, it is being said that the incident was not an uncommon one and was a shock for only those who are not familiar with fleet week or the layout of the bay. The event for others was an exhilarating one.
FAA or Federal Aviation Administration has responded to the video concerned with the comment that it is an optical illusion. The plane never posed any danger to the bridge, but the angle in which the video has been made is responsible for making it seem so. The plane according to FAA was never so close to the Golden Gate Bridge. Moreover, the plane never flew over the structure as seems in the video but stayed in front of it. Mike Fergus said “there was nothing out of the ordinary”.
San Francisco’s fleet week honors the US armed forces. Megan McCarthy, United Airlines spokeswoman said that the flyby was a part of the well publicized air show and the safety of the aircraft and the people were taken into consideration. FAA spokesperson also said the plane’s closest proximity was 1,200 feet from the Golden Gate bridge and that no regulations were broken.
