Morin: Veil law, Quran issue don’t up troop risk

WASHINGTON — The French defense minister says the threatened Quran burning in the U.S. and France’s new law banning women from wearing the burqa-style Islamic veil in public did not put French or NATO troops at greater risk.

Herve Morin says he doesn’t think the threat to troops will increase because it is always there and always high in the war.

As Morin put it, when you are at the maximum, you cannot go higher.

Speaking at a Pentagon press conference with his U.S. counterpart, Robert Gates, Morin said France also has not received any hostile reaction from Arab capitals to the veil law passed Tuesday.
