Honda raises price for 2011 Odyssey to $27,800

TORRANCE, Calif. — Honda set the pricing for its all-new 2011 Odyssey minivan Thursday at $27,800, about $840 more than the 2010 version.

The minivan goes on sale Sept. 30. It faces tough competition from the 2011 Toyota Sienna, which was introduced in June and starts at $24,460.

Honda says the new Odyssey has better fuel economy, a more distinctive style, more leg room in the third row and five latch points for child seats, the most of any vehicle.

The Odyssey has been a strong performer despite a gradual decline in U.S. minivan sales as buyers have migrated to crossovers and SUVs.

More than 71,500 Odysseys sold in the first eight months of this year, making it the best-selling minivan after the Chrysler Town and Country, according to AutoData Corp. Chrysler hasn’t released a price for the 2011 Town and Country, which will come out this fall with some upgrades. The 2010 model started at $26,025.

The Odyssey is Honda’s fourth best-selling vehicle behind the Accord and Civic sedans and the CR-V utility vehicle.
