Obama sets news conference for 11 a.m. EDT Friday

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama’s news conference on Friday is set for 11 a.m. Eastern time.

The White House says the session — Obama’s second of the year — will be televised nationwide.

The news conference will cap a week of appearances in which the president is rolling out new spending and tax cut proposals aimed at helping the economy. Obama unveiled a $50 billion transportation infrastructure proposal on Monday in Milwaukee.

On Wednesday, Obama is traveling to Cleveland to propose that Congress allow businesses to accelerate tax write-offs of their investments in new plants and equipment. The president also wants to expand a tax credit for research and development.

Obama last held a news conference in May to discuss the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
