Abu Dhabi, Sep 7 (IANS/WAM) Thousands of underprivileged people in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are being given money and new clothes to help them celebrate Eid Al-Fitr in a proper manner, officials said.

The Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has started distributing money to the poor and seven million Arab Emirates Dirhams (AED) will be given out to 8,474 eligible families in the Gulf region.

Around 20,000 people will benefit from the AED 1.5 million Eid clothing programme launched by the Human Appeal International (HAI).

Abdul Rahman Al Awadi, HAI secretary general, said the programme would also reach out to underprivileged families in Arab and Islamic countries.

HAI has been working for the past 19 years to provide for a better life and a bright future for people in need around the world, he said.
