No sign of man in 4-day search of Calif. landfill

PITTSBURG, Calif. — Volunteers and police have finished a fourth day of searching a Northern California landfill without finding any sign of 35-year-old Frederick Sales.

Authorities say Sales may have been killed by 38-year-old Efren Valdemoro, a suspect in the death of Sales’ father.

Valdemoro was fatally shot by officers in Richmond last Tuesday following a high-speed chase.

Hercules police spokeswoman Doreen Mathews says crews ended their search of the Keller Canyon landfill outside Pittsburg at 5 p.m. Monday with no discovery made. Mathews says searchers will return to the landfill at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities are also investigating the connection between Valdemoro and two women whose bodies were discovered in a Vallejo house.
