APNewsBreak: Judge rules in SCLC’s split
ATLANTA — Board members of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference who sided with the group’s embattled treasurer and chairman have lost their fight for control of the group.
A Fulton County Superior Court judge on Wednesday issued an order in the case between the dueling factions of the SCLC, who have been in court for nearly a year.
In the meantime, both have operated as the organization’s leadership, causing chaos and bringing the civil rights group to the brink of extinction.
The split on the board of directors came amid local and federal investigations into the SCLC’s chairman and treasurer, which arose last fall.
Headquartered in Atlanta, the SCLC was co-founded by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1957.
